Prince Wales Will Participate in UN Climate Summit in Brazil

Prince William plans to participate in the key Cop30 in the South American nation in the coming weeks, however the PM's participation remains undecided.

Prince William is set to award the Earthshot prize and take part in the meeting of delegates from in excess of 190 nations in the Brazilian city.

Environmental Experts Welcome Royal Participation

Environmental experts welcomed the prince's participation. One consultant noted that it would lift what is likely to be a complex meeting, where international consensus on fresh objectives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions is essential.

"Does Prince William attendance at the summit a stunt? Certainly. But that doesn't mean it's a poor decision," the expert remarked. "[King Charles was in his previous role when he went to Cop26 and pitched in to motivate discussions. I don't believe it always needs the prince and the king to go."

Prime Minister's Decision Still Unconfirmed

The British prime minister has not confirmed whether he will attend the conference, to which every global leaders are expected, with many set to attend. He was widely condemned by influential sustainability leaders for seeming hesitant on the decision earlier this month.

"International representatives need to be in the summit location for Cop30. Attendance is not a courtesy, it is a demonstration of responsibility. This is the moment to secure enhanced national commitments and the resources to deliver them, especially for resilience" to the effects of the climate crisis.
