Reigning Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Top Player Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of High Performance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka ended the season with a 63-12 match record, and collected a historic £11m in prize money.
She garnered nearly eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking 13-month break after the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after securing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
